The Dick
Stewart Cup is awarded to the team that wins the CCM High
School All-Star Game Series between Duluth and the Iron
Range.
The Cup (shown left with Dick Stewart) features the names
of every player who was on the winning team. Players who
represent the winning team have their names etched on the
cup and are then allowed to drink from the Cup.
Plans are underway for the Dick Stewart Cup to reside at
the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.
Born and raised in Duluth, MN, Richard "Dick"
Stewart took over his fathers sporting good store as a young
man. From 1941-2000 Dick owned and operated "Stewarts
Wheeled Goods" Duluth's most prolific sporting goods
store. Stewart's had become a recognizable name in hockey
and throughout the decades has sponsored many youth hockey
teams and programs including the Duluth East Peewee A, and
Duluth East Bantam A programs.
Dick and Stewarts Wheeled Goods is recognized not only locally,
but also throughout Northern Minnesota as a dedicated hockey
fan who has graciously donated his time, energy, and money
to support local youth, high school, and college hockey
for more than 60 years!
The CCM High School All-Star Hockey Game, and Kernz &
Kompany is honored to rename the "Heritage Trophy"
which goes to the winner of the CCM All-Star Hockey Series,
to the Dick Stewart Cup.
On July 16, 2004 Mr. Dick Stewart drank champagne from the
cup, officially christening the Dick Stewart Cup. As with
tradition only members of the winning team shall be able
to drink from this cup and will have their names etched
on the Cup.
The Cup will be presented to the winner of the CCM High
School All-Star Hockey Game that matches the best high school
hockey players from Duluth against the best of the Iron
Range.
The Dick Stewart Cup will be looking to call the U.S. Hockey
Hall of Fame as its home and will only be removed one time
each year for a new set of names to be inscribed onto the
cup.
