2008 TIME TRIAL RESULTS

The 2nd Annual Kia of Duluth Car Show and Time Trials took place on Sunday August 29, 2008 on Garfield Avenue in Duluth's Lincoln Park. More than 1,500 spectators took in the event which also set some new speed and time records.

It was Vern Laurin Jr, in his 1993 Dodge Dayton who not only smashed the course record with 5.97 second run, but also went on to claim the Championship in the "Slicks Division" down the 1/8 mile on Garfield Avenue.

Jim Ripley, took home Championship honors with a 6.62 run, in the "Street Division." Ripley's 1972 Chevy Nova had runs of 6.95, 6.92, and 6.93.

EVENT INFO

Gates open at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 24th. Time Trials will begin at approximately 10:00 a.m. and will conclude prior to 6:00 p.m. depending on the number of participants. Parking will be in the field adjacent to Garfield Avenue, however, due to the large numbers of spectators expected at this year's event we encourage spectators to find alternate parking on Superior St, or Railroad Street and walk to the event.

TICKETS

There are two types of tickets that can be purchased this year on-site. A general admission standing ticket is $10, and a reserved bleacher pass is $15. All tickets are non-refundable and no rainchecks will be issued due to weather. Bleacher seating is limited to 500 and it is recommended that spectators wanting a bleacher seat pre-purchase this ticket in advance at Kernz & Kompany, 2110 West First St, Duluth, MN 55806 or by calling 218-628-9996.

2008 TIME TRIAL INFORMATION

For those wishing to participate in the 2008 Kia of Duluth "Time Trial" portion of the event you must meet the following criteria in order to register. The event is open to the first 100 Registrants!

Deadline for registration has been extended until THURSDAY, AUGUST 21st.

1. Must have experience racing your vehicle on tracks such as Brainerd International Raceway (BIR), Rock Falls Raceway, other type of track, or participated in the 2007 Carshow & Time Trials in Lincoln Park.

2. Vehicles CAN run open headers (this is a new rule for 2008).

3. Vehicles CAN use slicks or street tires. However, there will not be a burnout box as the event is taking place on a public street.

4. Must sign a waiver releasing the event from any liability as a result of injury or crash.

5. Vehicle must pass an onsite "Safety Inspection" to make sure the vehicle is safe to participate. (If you have a BIR or ROCK FALLS Sticker this will expedite your inspection, but not required).

6. ALL drivers must wear a helmet and appropriate seat belt and/or harness.

7. ALL drivers once approved must be in the vehicle inspection area no later than 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 24th. If you are late you will be unable to participate.

8. ALL drivers must pay a non refundable $50 registration fee (registers driver and car).

9. Each driver is allows one (1) Pit Crew member only. No other persons will be allowed to be in our staging area other than the driver and pit crew member. (Driver and Pit Crew member will be issued a wrist band upon check in at the event).

CARSHOW INFORMATION

Vehicles wishing to participate in the Carshow portion of the event should arrive between 7:00 a.m.-8:30 a.m. The Carshow is limited to the first 100 vehicles, so plan to arrive early if you want to participate in the event. Please note that carshow vehicles are not allowed to leave until the conclusion of the event.
